Proper Storage is Essential to the Health of Your Rugs
If you need to store a rug and want assistance to ensure your rug is stored safely, bring it to Persian Rug Cleaner and we will pack it for you so that no pests get in and it is rolled correctly to avoid creasing.
Whether you’re moving, traveling, or redecorating, sometimes you need to put your fine rugs in storage. If you want your rug to be in the same condition when you remove it from storage, there are some steps you need to take to protect your rug.
Steps to Place Your Rug in Storage
1. Have Your Rug Professionally Cleaned– a dirty rug is much more attractive to pests for eating, breeding, and creating nesting material.
2.Roll the Rug and Wrap it in Breathable Cotton Sheeting– Do not fold your rug as this will cause permanent creasing. Wrap it in a material that allows the fibers to breathe and secure the ends closed with ties so that mice cannot enter. Wrapping the rolled rug in something nonporous, such as plastic, can also cause mildew to form due to a lack of air circulation. The rug should be horizontal and placed above the floor to avoid pests.
3. Store it in a Climate-Controlled Facility– Fluctuations in temperature can cause a number of issues such as mold, brittle fibers due to dryness, and make the area more attractive to destructive moths.
4. Check on Your Rugs– If possible, check on your rugs every six months to inspect for pests and damage. Unwrap the rug and check for dampness as well. Clean the unit when you visit.
